There are about 60 species of woodland shrubs in the genus Deutzia, but only about a dozen of them have garden value as intense spring bloomers. Average soil and full sun suits them just fine. Although the great French plantsman, Victor Lemoine, bred Deutzias, he is better known for his many Lilacs.
